MEET THE BOARD OF FVSA
MEET THE BOARD OF
FLUSHING VALLEY SWIM ASSOCIATION
PRESIDENT: COURTNEY BARBER
Courtney Barber became the President and CEO of Flushing
Valley Swim Association in August of 2022.
Over the course of her career she has held many badges, stay
at home mom, medical assistant, safety officer and now a sports business
executive. Courtney has held leadership positions in many ways in her life, as
a captain of the SVSU Women's Lacrosse team 2005 & 2006, as well as a mini
mayor back in her childhood days. As far as sports she was on the Flushing/
Swartz Creek Swimming and Diving team and brought home the Diving Big 9
championship in 2004. She also was a lifelong softball player playing Varsity
three of the four high school years for Flushing.
In her role as a single mother of four, she has coached,
soccer, baseball, t-ball and gymnastics. As an athlete herself she has a strong
passion for children's sports and believe that sports and being a part of clubs
teaches so much more than just the sport but more shapes and molds them to be
good humans as well as builds their confidence to be pivotal positive humans of
our future society.
Courtney has three of her four children who swim on the FVCC
team and she has loved to watch the children grow in not only their swimming
ability but their confidence in themselves. The coaches and other team mates
have become lifelong friends.
What she wants all new members of the club to know or anyone
who is hesitant to join is that her little age 6, couldn't barely make it
the length on the pool when she started and the coaches and teammates worked
with her and got het doing it confidently. The bigger two children did not know
a single stoke and now are confident swimmer who are anxious to try all
strokes. Please don't let no experience stop you. Don't let the unknown stop
you or your children.
Treasure: SHAYLA BLANKENSHIP
Shayla Blankenship joined the FVSA board after serving as the parent representative for the FVCC swim team for the past three years.
Her two children joined the swim team and fell in love with the coaches and the sport. Its something they look forward to returning each year. As a parent rep she created the bond between flushing valley swim association and the league we are a part of called Interclub Genesee County.
When she is not helping at swim meets, Shayla works as a child welfare attorney. She enjoys cheering on her kids in their multiple extracurricular such as at marching band, cheer, basketball and lacrosse and swim team.
